From the CN tower. There is a brewpub here and a railway museum is planned. http://abpr.railfan.net/abprphoto.cgi?may03/05-11-03/DSC00056_Large.jpg ryarger@rypn.org |

A railway museum has been planned for years, but nothing has ever materialized even though there is already several pieces of rolling stock inside. It no longer has any rail access and never will again because a large underground parking garage has been built between the roundhouse and the nearest live rail at Union Station. It wasn't built to support the weight. |

This is truly one of the saddest stories in y estimation in Canadian rail preservation. Here we have a complete roundhouse, with coaling tower and water tower on site, that was used as a roundhouse as little as 15 years ago by both CP and TH&B. Now landlocked and seemingly missing its turntable, it would have been a fastastic home for engines such as 4-8-4 6213 (see picture below) which resides in immaculate condition in a park in Toronto, and other pieces of rail equipment which really need proper shelter (such as CN 6167 in Guelph, and 6218 in Fort Erie). It also would have been a fitting home for CP's own 4-6-4 2816 when it visits Toronto...oh the possibilities lost by short sighted planning. > A railway museum has been planned for years, > but nothing has ever materialized even > though there is already several pieces of > rolling stock inside. Very sorry to hear that rail acess will never be possible, but for the record the brewery has some good beer! What rolling stock is already on site? Joshua Surviving D&H Non-EMDs |

> I thought I had read the parking lot was > built *under* the roundhouse, It's under part of the roundhouse at the east end. A few of the stalls were torn down to build the parking garage, then rebuilt on top. The majority of the parking garage is between the roundhouse and live rail. |
