Wow, that is one spiffy-looking switch engine!!

How about some technical details-- paint system used, loco condition, etc.

According to the website, the NW2 is fully operational ... I also like that paint job ... just something about a nice orange ... whose paint is it and how long is the paint guaranteed NOT to fade ????

The other interesting facet of the website is how much of their equipment is privately owned seems to not be a problem with these folks ...I wish someone could email me on how this is handled ...some folks have a real problem with this.

Thanks

The following is the text from the June 15th 2003 RyPN Brief on this Unit. It doesn't answer the paint question, but provides a little more info on the restoration:
Milwaukee Road NW2 Returns
Milwaukee Road NW2 #1649 is currently undergoing restoration at the Monticello Railway Museum in Monticello, Illinois. Painting and lettering of this locomotive in its as-delivered 1947 paint scheme (shown in the photo) was completed at Monticello May 23rd.
#1649 was one of three NW2s delivered to the Milwaukee Road in November of 1947 as part of EMD order #E-885, frame number E-885-3 and the builder #05240. After re-installation of various appliances (bell, headlight, number plates, window glass, builder's plates) and completion of mechanical work (sanders, brake hoses, emergency fuel cutouts, some re-wiring and the like) #1649 will receive its FRA "blue card" and see limited service at the musuem. With any luck this should occur later this summer. Usage limits will depend upon how fragile the locomotive proves to be in service.
Monticello is trying to assemble a complete "provenance" on the locomotive. Missing items at this time include the original AFE # authorizing purchase of the order, data on the equipment trust used to finance its purchase, the EMD order file including the "deviation release" specifying customization of the units, the original painting and lettering diagram (print of MILW Drwg. B-2885 of correct date), a complete set of EMD builder's photos, and the trail of ownership after the Milwaukee disposed of the 1649 (by now the 677) in 1984. Anyone with pertinent information is encouraged to contact the museum.

The paint used was DuPont Imron 333M or 3.5 HG as it is now know as. 681 FD was used as primer. We worked with out local DuPont rep. and the folks at DuPont itself for the color matches. The unit has about 3 coats of top finish and it was clearcoated (with Imron) to help preserve the lettering.

MRM has pretty much used this paint system on everything for longer than I care to remember right now.
