Below is a quote from the Travel Wisconsin website. Anyone know what locomotive this might be that they are referring to?
"Another scenic spot is just south of Mason on Trail #63 where a trestle on the old rail bed is great for spotting deer. A wrecked locomotive still lies under the ice next to the trail."

Wisconsin does get cold, but they do have periods during the year when there is no ice! This sounds like another version of "legend of the lost locomotive".

I forgot to attach the link to the actual site page in my original post, so it's linked below.
I don't think it's just a legend, or it probably wouldn't be on the site as an attraction to look for along the trail. I could be wrong though...
I agree, it's probably not always under ice. The listing is for a snowmobile trail, so I'm sure they're refering to winter time viewing of it.

Hi,

Go to mapquest.dot com and type in Mason, wi. The railroad is still shown even though it has been gone since 1980? 1982? That is the old route of the Namakagon that ran from Ashland to Minneapolis.

Just south of Mason, the roadbed crosses the White River. It there was a sunken locomotive, it would be there.
