Post subject:  Thomas visits the Trans-Siberian *PIC*
A quick shot of Thomas arriving at Strasburg last Sunday afternoon. Sorry for the poor framing, blame it on the delay built into digital cameras, combined with a moving target, and a case of photographer hypothermia.

The line was plowed both Saturday, and Sunday mornings, but high winds Sunday caused instant drifting of snow all along the line. #90 was a giant snowball from the top of the frame down, and still had snow in the running gear Monday afternoon, after 24 hours in the engine house.

Every train left on time regardless of the weather, and we were all pleasantly surprised by the number of people who showed up. One family drove down from NYC in the height of the storm Saturday morning, seven hours one way (normally three), and said they had a great time.

Kelly,

My only question is whether or not you had Terrance the tractor ready to pull Thomas out of the snow, since he was not wearing his snowplow. :)

It looks like you had fun despite the weather, and I am glad about the good turnout. One of these days, it will be my sons and I waiting for a ride.

Kelly,

If must have been really cold that morning when you took that picture. It was still below freezing on Sunday when I stopped by the Museum.

My only question would be: Why was 90 only pulling 5 cars while Thomas pulled 7 or 8? Generally on Thomas days the other engine running usually has close to equal the amount of Thomas. Unless it only had 5 because you were expecting a lesser crowd because of the below freezing temperatures?

Post subject:  90 used to snow
Old No. 90 and the other GWR steamers are used to snow, remembering the huge New Years blizzard of 1949 in Northern Colorado. In one day the temperature went from 70 degrees to a raging blizzard that shut down the whole region for days.

The Orange empire Railway Museum does Thomas events and they are a lot closed to you than
Strasburg, PA

But of course, just about nobody has as much steam about as they do! When you go stay in the Red Caboose Motel. It is great fun.
