Post subject: SR "Peach Blossom" China reproduced
PostPosted: Thu Dec 11, 2003 3:26 pm

I'm happy to tell you that NCTM has reproduced the SR "Peach Blossom" pattern dining car china from the 1920s.

This is a really ornate pattern, and the originals are dificult to find and expensive if you can.

A lot of folks worked hard to get this: Gift Shop Manager Marlene Minshew stayed ofter Oneida, which makes the Buffalo line today, to get the job done right. Visitor Services Mgr. Larry Neal researched the pattern and colors for acccuracy. Others pitched in to make sure it was done right, not the least of which included securing permission from Norfolk Southern to use the round SR logo, which the company still owns. The pieces are backstamped with NCTM's logo to avoid confusion with the originals, thus preserving the value for collectors.

When I was in NCTM's "Gift Station" earlier this week, the first samples had arrived. They looked good. One of our directors, retired SR general counsel Jim Bistline, was there and declared them "on the money" replicas.

So, a bit of southeastern dining car history is alive and well. I'm especially proud that we've done this. RR Museum of Pa. has its PRR china, B&O sells its replica "blue" and CSRM offers up a couple of designs from the Santa Fe. And now we have the SR china.

Oh, did I mention, it is scheduled to ship Dec. 15 and makes a great Christmas gift?

Details below if you're interested.

5 piece place setting consists of a 10 1/2 inch plate, 6 1/4 inch plate, coffee cup, saucer, fruit bowl for $89 for members; $99 for non-members; shipping is $8.35 via UPS insured; add $2.90 for residential delivery.

Give Marlene a call at the Gift Station at (704) 636-2889. Tell her you saw it on rypn.org first.

Jim:

What a great idea.

If I were nearer the East Coast instead of on the West coast, I'd be very interested. I'm hoping someone will do something similar with GN or NP dining car china someday.

Merry Christmas!

Crazy question Jim, but who did you have do the China recreation? I'm thinking we might do something similar with the P.M. Carferry pattern, or even the old Detroit & Cleveland Navigation or Georgian Bay Line Patterns.

Thanks,

T.J.

Oneida took over Buffalo so they were the place to go for it. Look for the successor to your pattern's maker. They might even still have some patterns out there. Jim
