Our company, DL&W Car Company, Inc., owns the HEP 50' baggage car used on the Acadian last year and presently stored in St. Albans, VT. It is completely Amtrak overhauled (800717)and available for purchase or lease. We also own another 50' baggage car in good condition with HEP, but not rebuilt to Amtrak standards, and presently stored in Green Bay , WI. It is from the former Great Lakes Western Fleet. And for those with beer budgets, we have one of these cars with a poor body, and the bums stole the HEP cable already, in the St. Louis area, for real cheap!
These cars were built for the US Army as kitchen cars by St. Louis Car in 1954. The rebuilt one has new roof and nailable steel boxcar flooring, would be excellent for conversion into a power car, although the nailable steel floor could be added to the Green Bay car. My business partner has extensive experience in generators, having built the former Transcisco power car presently providing most of the HEP for the BNSF business train. He has also sold about 75% of all Stadco individual power units under private and tour train cars in North America.
