Does anyone know the current location of PRR doodlebug #4666? Is it operable? I believe it was operated at the Black River & Western RR for a number of years, but their web site does not list it. res1pzkt@verizon.net |

I live about two miles from the Ringoes station and shop area. The PRR #4666 is sitting on a side track and as been for quite some time. I believe that it needs work before it can run again. It would be great to see it running again and I cannot remember the last time it ran. It used to be great when BR&W used to run their 2-8-0. They used to run a Saturday night steam run to Lambertville that used to come back around 11 PM. It was great to hear the locomotive working up the grade coming back into Ringoes!!! steamfan@crusoe.net |

Some years ago, BR&W sold 4666 (along with RS-1 #57) to a private individual. The car remains at Ringoes, NJ ... and the current owner has been slowly restoring the car to operable condition (the car was falling into disrepair and needed a major overhaul while owned by BRW), and has done a fair amount of work on it. Reportedly, the auxiliary engine has been replaced, considerable steel work to the frame and draft gear on the passenger compartment end (including strengthening the structure to handle a modern tightlock coupler), and a new rubberized roof have been installed. Last I heard, the car is capable of moving under its own power, but isn't far enough along that it's ready for fare-paying passengers. The current owner is committed to doing the job right, and attends to its needs as his funds allow... Fiv4HghStk@aol.com |

Just curious, how many of the large 1925-30 vintage gas-electric cars have been preserved. I can think of 9, incuding ATSF M160, M177, and M190, B&M 1180, Erie 5012, GN 2313, PRR 4662 and 4666, and UP M-35. Only Erie 5012, rusting away in Worthington, Ohio, appears to be endangered. Found this on the Skytop Lounges site: "187 "Coon Rapids" - Purchased by Dave Vannes Madison WI. Car was moved to storage in upper Michigan during the mid 1970's and was used in a couple of excursions over the Escanaba & Lake Superior RR. The car was seriously damaged during long term outdoor storage and was repossesed by John Larkin for back payments owed to the former owners after his purchase of the E&LS during 1980. The car was moved to indoor storage in the old "P&H" plant in Escanaba MI along with former Milwaukee "Super Dome" #51" "Coffee Creek" Restoration  tjgaffney@phmuseum.org |
