Post subject: Calumet & Hecla Mining Co. No. 3, a 0-4-0T
PostPosted: Tue Dec 16, 2003 1:14 pm

If any of you have been a student at Michigan Tech in Houghton, MI, or have visited the area, you know that there are 2 standard gauge engines (a 4-6-0 and a 2-8-0) rotting in Ripley, and there are two narrow gauge engines (I believe a 2-6-0 and a 2-8-0) rotting at the Quincy mine. There was also an 0-4-0T Calumet and Hecla #3 sitting on the property of the Houghton County Historical Museum.
#3 is now running on the Lake Linden & Torch Lake RR in Lake Linden Michigan. (the line is being completed) She was restored between 1998 and 2003. Adam S. Wright (a student at Michigan Tech at the time) headed the mechanical aspect of the restoration while Richard (Dick) Taylor head the financial aspect. They were helped by many people in moving the engine and by the Calumet Machine of Calumet, MI which is where the restoration took place.

For his senior project, Adam designed a tender to carry coal and more water for the locomotive.
