Just a nice photo from the ABPR. Not sure they had crushed granite ballast in 1869, but don't the engines look nice?

I frankly liked the first paint scheme better, but apparently the blue is the historically appropriate color.

When I visited in June, 1995, the 119 was running with her red pilot (cowcatcher) missing.

When I asked why, I was told that it was in the carpenter shop for repair, because, about a week prior, stopping distance was misjudged, and it was discovered that the Jupiter's pilot was stronger than the 119's pilot.

Thanks for posting excellent photos of these two handsome machines.

One nice but fairly subtle touch. Rather than putting the compressors on the same side of each locomotive, as would be conventional, each is on what I believe is the North (in any case the back) side in the historic pose. Thus if you wish to recreate the picture, anachronism is minimized. Very nice touch. And I like the blue. One red locomotive, one blue. Variety is after all the spice of life, and you could say that its an accurate reflection of the American electorate. California is blue, and Nebraska red. Why not. (My appologies to anyoune troubled by the political pun. No judgement is intended, just onservation.)
