What do folks think of having a Richmond,Fredericksburg & Potomic box car at a Western museum? For that matter haow about a standard gauge D&RGW box in a California museum? They are storage units not dispalys.
ted_miles@NPS.gov |

Why not? Better preserved there than not at all. Besided, such boxcars visited every state in the lower 48 in interchange service; for example, in the 60s and 70s it seems every train I saw in California (where I live) had at least one SOO Line boxcar. If such cars are displayed for the public, an appropriate sign could be made describing car interchange and why this car could be here, far from its home road. Besides, if all you displayed were home road cars it would give a distorted view of how things were then (and still are, for that matter; look at any freight train even now and "foreign" road cars will be seen).
Chris H.
holombo.chris@ssd.loral.com |
