Georgia Northern 4-6-2 107, in a night shot a couple of years ago. It is supposed to be getting some care soon. Can anyone tell me what trackage/stcuctures/etc. is left of the Pidcock lines in Georgia? http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=19870 ryarger@rypn.org |

I am in the process of building a mostly new wooden cab - she was the last FEC pacific left with a wooden cab. Not only was she pretty well depreciated by GNRR in service, unprotected storage took a harsh toll on the boiler, and she lost some rods to replace those on 750 that cracked in excursion service years back. dave irondave@bellsouth.net |

As Dave mentioned, 107 is stripped and undergoing cosmetic restoration. Most of the appliances have been restored, and we are currently working on the tender tank which has been removed from the frame. This while Dave works on the new cab. We have managed to preserve the rear wall and roof ribs. Only the steel supports and side sheet of the cab side walls will be salvageable. I posted some additional info at www.steamlocomotive.info regarding the progress and findings. About the remaining Pidcock trackage, the line from Albany to Moultrie is intact and operated by Georgia & Florida RailNet. I believe the line south of Moultrie is long out of service if even still in place. G&F runs the Moultrie-Sparks line to NS (ex GS&F) and then down to Valdosta. All of the GAS&C is gone except for the south end west of the former ACL Thomasville line in Camilla, also used for switching by G&F. G&F built a small yard there several years ago. Short sections of the north and south ends of the Albany & Northern are still in place but only the south end sees any trains, due to an asphalt plant that receives aggregate by rail. The line stops short of Lake Chehaw (formerly Lake Worth) just north of Albany. There has been some talk of repairing/reinstalling the wye at the north end in Cordele, for the benefit of the Heart of Georgia, which operates the former SAL trackage from Vidalia to the Alabama line. This is the line on which the S.A.M. Shortline excursion train operates (Cordele to Plains). If someone can tell me how to post photos of the 107 restoration progress I can try to do it soon.
