Post subject:  Looking for Jim Hicks' Passenger Equipment
Anyone know where ex-GM&O steel passenger coach No. 3099 resides these days? It was owned by James F. Hicks of Easton, Pa., and was leased to Rail Tours in Jim Thorpe during the early to mid 1980s.

Hicks also owned ex-GTW baggage express 8526, and CNJ steel suburban passenger coaches Nos. 992 and 1000--I'm also trying to track these cars down as well.

Leads, anybody?

I beleive the GM&O car resides in the Hamburg shop of the Reading and Northern,

And Ex-GTW 8526 is now at R&N as well, although owned by RCT&HS. An effort had been made to try to find someone in ex-GTW territory to preserve it, but no luck as yet.

Will attempt to locate equipment roster to verify, but believe the two CNJ cars were used as part of the Chessie Steam Special starting in 1977. I believe they were cleaned and painted at Saucon Creek Roundhouse along with the 2101, the NYC Mohawk aux. tender, an ex-US Hospital car, HICO ex-NYC 2936 Coach converted to parlor car(now on the Morristown & Erie), High Iron Co. Observation #7(ex NYC #7)(Brothers Two/Spendid Spirit). There were I believe two other CNJ cars leased from NJT. I did see last May a CNJ coach down at Cass, up along the Greenbrier line, which had been used on the Chessie Steam Special, there were also some ex RDG cars.

Back in 1973, was that 30 years ago already, one of the Jim Hicks cars was moved along with the "Whipanny River"/BR&W #148 4-6-2 from Ringoes to Whippany via Lambertville, north along the Bel-Del to Phillipsburg, east on CNJ to High Bridge, up along the CNJ High Bridge Branch to Lake Jct. Will attempt to locate car # in some photos.

Located roster for Chessie Steam Special from 1977. CSS coaches 5 & 6 were Jim Hick's 992 & 1000. Coaches 7 & 8 were NJDOT ex-CNJ 1146 and 1141. Cars 2, 3 & 4 were ex-Reading cars on loan from Delaware & Hudson. 2 was 519, combine, 3 was listed as D&H 11 (no Rdg no. given) and 4 was 1549.

Also note from roster that 3 cars belonging to the Railroad Passenger Cars, Inc were ex-Long Island, ex-EL, original Lackawanna coaches #315,#317 & #325.
Do these cars still exist?

Post subject:  Where are the ex-RDG D&H Coaches Now?
Very interesting discovery--I've also been trying to track down the whereabouts of the two ex-Reading cars owned by the D&H that were used on the CSS in 1978--RDG combine 519 and RDG chair car 1549. Both of these cars were owned by George M. Hart of Rail Tours from 1964-65 until 1974 when they were traded to the D&H for an ex-D&H wooden boxcar and wooden gondola now at Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg. Hart was Director of the RR Museum at the time of the trade.

Does anybody know where the 519 and 1549 presently reside???

Dear Kurt:
Valley Railroad owns (and operates) two ex-CNJ suburban coaches which we bought from Jim Hicks. Our No. 1000 was CNJ No. 1000 the other is our No. 1002. These cars came to us off lease to the Cape Cod & Hyannis in the late 1980s'. At one time (before my time) the Valley leased a former Reading coach from Jim.
