Does anyobody know for sure where this locomotive is now? Its shown as being with the Steck estate on the site below, but as far as I knew nothing is left in Reese. Howdy; Does anyone know if the 1521 is being considered for full restoration to service? Or she more or less stuffed and mounted? I am currently doing research on sister CNR 4-6-0 1533 for a project, and would like t know if anyone has a more complete history of the 1521/1274 while in service (photos?)? These engines were the subjects of a 2009 rypn thread: "I have listed a link below to a CN steam roster that might be of some help. It appears that the three locomotives were clustered together in the 1500 series during a 1955/56 renumbering. You have to be careful using the roster as original locomotives which carried these number were scrapped or disposed of relatively early on. H6-b 1521 was originally 1274 built in 1905. H6-d 1533 was originally 1324 built in 1910. H6-g 1551 was originally 1354 built in 1912-13. Note the inward canted cylinders on 1521 whereas 1533 and 1551 did not share this trait with her either. Ironically they used up the 1200-1300 numbers and some SW1200RS units got 1500-series numbers above the 4-6-0's. Phil Mulligan |

NH&I 1533 is the one which should get the green light for complete CNR restoration, imho. Talk about neglect! She's totally apart and should be made available to some reputable group. |

1533 was a good engine. When the original owners of the NH&I had exhausted their money without buying a diesel, and they couldn't afford to lease one, 1533 had to work freight year round. She was the only steam engine that could run New Hope to the RDG interchange and back without loading water. She did that for several years. Here's a video of 1533 on freight. This is NOT a photo freight; this is 1533 reprising what she had done in Ontario 15 years earlier. Just when the smoke cleared right near the end of the tape the quick image appears. Anyone have a larger screen than I have to tell for sure? Les |

Good eye; it is indeed a DL&W "Phoebe Snow" boxcar. The video is undoubtedly an 8mm movie from 1969 and not all that sharp. 1533 is running so cleanly Phoebe would be proud. Her gown would have stayed white. The white "smoke" is condensing exhaust steam hitting the cold air. The caboose is an ex-CNJ "plywood palace" car. Phil Mulligan |
