UP is said to be hiring conductors. Good pay and you don't have to kiss anyone's behind like you do at the normal "at will" (non union) employment. Most conductors will take engineer training after a couple years, though will probably work as conductors for the next five or so. Forget about working days with weekends off, however, for many years if not your whole career, and buy some warm clothing for cold areas - you'll need about eight layers.
