First a quote from the front page of 261's website: "The Friends of the 261 is proud to anounce that the contracts with Amtrak for fourteen excursions in conjunction with the upcoming Grand Excursion Celebration have been signed! The excursion trips will occur during late June and early July. Watch the upcoming edition of "Northern Lines" for advance ticket ordering details for members of the Friends. Ticket ordering will go on line to the public in early February. " Fourteen excursions. And the nice folks up at Harrison Street hint rather strongly that there will be other trips besides the "Grand Excursion" trips. Jim Wrinn mentioned this information about a week ago over on Trainoders and it occassioned a single comment. I would like to congratulate Steve and his magnificent crew, as well as the Friends of the 261 for doing what many others are only talking about: running steam on mainline railroads. They're going to start letting out bids for building a MILW Hudson or an Atlantic to go with 261? Just kidding of course. WTG North Star Rail!!! Hope to see 261 again soon. Joshua |
