Museum vandals strike again. The Great Plains Transportation Museum, Wichita, Kansas was hit on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004 by one or more vandals. A large number of windows were broken out of various pieces of equipment. The worst hit were the museums two buses one a Flx-Twin Coach had 10 windows including its windshields broken. The other bus one of the first Wichita built Chance buses lost 8 widows including its windshields which may not be able to be replaced due to their design and not being mfg. any longer. The damage will be well over $6,000 in materials alone not counting labor to install the glass.

The Car Maintenance department of the Rockhill Trolley Museum is looking to acquire several types of springs for various applications in its collection of trolley cars. We have quotes on various springs and the information is below. Prices are higher than expected, so we would like to combine orders if possible to get the best possible price for everyone..

1) Brill 77E1 truck coil springs, inner and outer graduating spring pair, between truck bolster and leaf springs.

2) Nuttall pole base springs, Westinghouse # 600426, as used on US-13, -14,
-20 bases.

starting price ~$11.00 each (!)

3) Ohio Brass “form 1” pole base springs, used on (relatively rare) base which has springs and pole both on same side of pivot.

starting price ~ $25 each

These have been quoted by two companies used by NCTM and PTM in the past. Deliveries are on the order of one month.

A major railroad museum has announced it has arranged the restoration of PRR I1sa 2-10-0 number 4584, a locomotive previously believed to have been scrapped.

Engine 4584 is one of 475 I1s locomotives built by Baldwin for the PRR in 1923, the largest single order for steam locomotives.

A museum employee recently located 4584's number plate in the museum archives and a nearby short line rail road has agreed to restore the rest of the locomotive.

Museum experts concur that this is a rare find and that the serindipitous existence of the number plate allows the complete restoration to proceed with the continuity of the historic fabric of the artifact being assured.
