.....But one which a friend and I were conversing about a few days ago. We had no answers.

What did the LIRR do with the Colin Furgeson Massacre Cars? Where these cars ever (hopefully) scrapped? Were they put back into service? Did they sit/Are they sitting behind the Hillside Facility in the dead line? Does anyone know the road numbers?

I honestly can't see putting something like those cars back into service, but maybe it's just me.

I don't have concrete information but would suspect that they were returned to the shop, refitted and put back in service. From the video images I saw on the news, damage seemed to be limited to the interior fixtures of the cars. There might have been some damage to the carbody but that is easily patched. Railcars aren't as disposable as buses or other public transit vehicles, so it makes sense to rebuild them whenever possible, even after something such as Ferguson.

I had absolutely no idea what you were talking about, until I tried Google. Google suggested searching for "Colin Ferguson" (i.e. instead of "Furgeson") and Viola! This seems to have been discussed on lots of places on the web.
