The famous ex Copper River & Northwestern Railway "Miles Glacier" or "Million Dollar" bridge is to be restored by the State of Alaska as a highway.

The dramatic span paritally collapsed in the 1965 earthquake, yet has remained in some highway use as it lies in the river. Really!

If you take a close look at the dropped span, there appears to be a ramp from the abutment down to the deck of the span.

I saw that, but it looks like part of the old bridge deck to me. If it is a ramp, this is definitely not a ride for the faint-hearted.

Indeed, I have seen close-up photos and that ramp is the current "highway."
