As part of its tourism theme, on January 15, 2004, the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum in Canyon, Texas opened the exhibition, "Take Me Away Santa Fe," in the Alexander Photo Gallery on the first floor. The exhibit will close on November 15, 2004.

When the Atchison, Topeka, and the Santa Fe Railway stretched its lines through the American Southwest in the late 1870s and early 1880s, it helped determine the placement of many Texas Panhandle communities. Furthermore, the Santa Fe provided the best means of travel through the American Southwest before the automobile era. Tourists from the Texas Panhandle used the railway to reach vacation destinations in the Southwest, mainly in New Mexico.

Drawn entirely from the PPHM's collection, the exhibition will include photographs, maps, calendars, souvenirs, and other ephemera related to the Santa Fe Railway marketing machine, which attempted to attract tourists to the Southwest via the Santa Fe rail line.
