Hi again, I just read on another board that cpr 2816 will be pulling some excursions with 261 this summer. I had a website in my bookmarks that said 2816 would be pulling a cross country trip in may, but that website has since shutdown. Is the cross canada trip off? Are there any other plans for the engine this year? This will be its first trips back in the USA, so will it be here for a while, it would be really nice to see it at trainfest 2004! but im probably wishing too much with that. On a side note about trainfest what is the third big steam engine that the website is talking about, I thought it was going to be 765 but nothing has been announced yet. (i really cant wait for this summer) Matt mstolzenfels@hotmail.com |

It tells a little about the 2816 there. Anything else the CP might be planning for it would have to come from their own web site to be considered official. They likely have plans, but not confirmed. When plans aren't confirmed, it's bad policy to announce anything. That can also be the reason the third big engine at Trainfest has yet to be announced. It's hard to confirm the appearance of a locomotive that is still in pieces, for instance. Mark D. Link to 261 below http://www.261.com |

Mark D. is absolutely correct. It is bad policy to announce anything until everything is confirmed and all contracts are signed. We've all seen the bad press that various groups have gotten when a trip falls through. This makes the locomotive owners, trip sponsor, and host railroad all look very bad. This is exactly why there haven't been any announcements yet regarding 765's 2004 schedule. Some excursions are actually tentatively scheduled at this point, but tentative is the key word. Nothing is going to be definiate until either the locomotive is completed or is to a point where we can accurately estimate when it will be complete. The current goal for completion is July and I would be on the lookout for some formal announcements in the near future. |
