Over in flimsies today, there's a nice AP article that ran in the Billigs, Mont. Gazette about UP 3985's tour this winter.

In it, there's this gem of a quote, (yes, the kind newspaperfolk such as myself crave):

"It made me think of the good old days," said Don Walthall, 69, of Magnolia, who drove nearly an hour to Hope to see once again something that had been common during his youth.

Ah, sigh.

One of the great unspoken truths about what we do as volunteers or professionals in railway preservation is to make life a little better by what we do. It doesn't have to be a huge life changing expereince. Sometimes what we do is a simple emotional service for folks... there's no greater calling.

Just a notion to put into the back of your heads as you head out this weekend to fight time and the rust.
