Is it going to be a Steamless summer for this railroad,,,whatI have read in Railpace Magazine ,it just mite be.... According too the FEB issue,2004 the maine Ng has suspended steam operation's on all (4)steam loco'sbecause all are out of current steam compliance with new Federal law... IS this true,,will someone from the museum say yes /no I would like too see update from museum,,on this,,will they be any STEAM in Maine in PORTLAND,,ME this summer with the former EDAVILLE equipment?????????? thank you,,Pat CPRH1b@yahoo.com |

Steamless??? I really dont think so. The MNG volunteers have been hard at work bringing #4 into compliance with the new FRA regulations that the railroad now falls under. Much work has been accomplished already, jacket removed, UT test is under way and will be completed shortly with no bad news to speak of. The trailing truck wheels have been profiled, boiler interior inspected, along with many other needed tasks completed. MNG volunteers are committed to keeping their steam operational, and hope to have #4 out for this summer. In addition, "up the road a piece" in Alna, Maine, The Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum will have their #10 (a 1904 Vulcan) back in service this summer. Boothbay Railway Village in Boothbay will be running their Henschel locomotives. With MNG, WW&F, and BBRV all steaming away, there will be plenty of narrow gauge steam in Maine this summer ;-) http://www.wwfry.org mcnamara@theworld.com |
