Post subject:  Q 4000 progress

Progress report on CB&Q 4-6-4 4000, from the "Big Alice, the goon" thread below. Sounds like they got the asbestos off. Hope they are saving the jacketing, at least to use for patterns. Some photos with this report also, click on the highlighted links.

These guys and their contractors are cutting out rusty metal and replacing it. They obviously understand that cosmetic restoration involves more than a few boy scouts with paint brushes. Looks like they got a lot of donated services and materials also.

Restoration services provided by Steam Operations Corporation. Jacket and running gear painting is scheduled for the late spring.

....to every city, town, municipality, museum, support group, etc, who has been entrusted with the care and maintenance of a steam locomotive. The "before" and "after" condition of #4000 is nothing short of miraculous. I hope there are plans to build a shelter over her. Where do I send my money? And where did that perfect Burlington Route herald come from? I know several other Burlington engines on display that would benefit from a "proper" tender herald.
