Any news on thos early streamlined Diesel locomotive? Did they ever get the engine going again?

Also I see that Steamtwon National historic Site has added a page of restoration pictures to their web site. Some good looking wood ans steel cabooses there and a little 0-4-0 tank engine from New Haven Trap Rock looking pretty good.

No inside knowledge here, but as luck would have it just today I was given a local Boston area paper with a very nice article about the Yankee restoration. (I guess I'm a little like Andy Rooney in that people are always giving me stuff that they think I'll be interested in -but that's where any similarity ends!)

The Middlesex East News ran a very straight-forward story absent the usual cutsie "playing train" comments. Instead the article focused on the Yankee's historical significance and covered almost the entire front page of the paper. No online version, so I'll hit a couple of highlights here.

To quote Carl Lindblade, Executive Director of the Flying Yankee Restoration Group, "the restoration is more than half complete but has taken longer than anticipated due to the unique nature of the equipment and the many components that are difficult to repair or replace." He also confirmed that the Yankee will be Amtrak compliant when finished.

He said that funding has been a public/private partnership up to this point and that $2 million has been spent. They are now beginning a new fundraising phase in which corporate underwriting is being secured.

During the off-season, the plan is to have her housed indoors in Concord, NH and accessible as a static exhibit.

Let's hope the new fundraising is successful. Restoration work is now at a standstill due to a lack of funding. Word from the Claremont Concord RR shops, where the restoration is taking place, is that they hope to resume work in April if funds become available.
