Bob Yarger:
Concerning your article on the building of the replicated roundhouse at Ford's Greenfield Village, we had heard that after the floor was poured, the museum realized that the turntable (which had been installed some years earlier) did not line up (height wise) with the roundhouse tracks. Can you confirm or deny this? If true, it shows that even big money operations can still make mistakes!
midlandblb@cs.com |

I heard from one my fellow colleagues at Greenfield Village that a possible reason for the mistake was that they never compensated for the fact that the rails were higher than the ground. That's not definite but the whole incident was a big oops! Despite working in the village I have not been able to check out the roundhouse since I'm too busy firing their steamboat. I checked it out a few weeks ago when it was minus all of the equipment and locomotives but still very impressive. Now the one thing that is missing is the grime. It looks too clean! ;)
x98salmonson@wmich.edu |
