I'm curious what the area surrounding Denver Union Station is like today? When I was last there years ago, it was pretty seedy, with dozens of winos, broken bottles and vomit on nearby Larimer Street. Has it improved since? The area seems to be the subject of redevelopment today.

Bob,
It has turned into the "high" end of town. The "Rockies" stadium is immediately adjacent to the station and the surrounding area is condos, lofts and shopping. It all started with Larimer Square in the early 70's and progressed from there. The "Terminal Bar" (great name for a skidrow joint, I always thought) and its patrons no longer pose a threat to arriving and departing train passengers.

Let's not forget Wynkoop Brewing Co., located basically across the street or around the corner from Denver Union and two blocks from the light rail, at least partially in buildings formerly used by the railroads. One of the house standards is Railyard Ale.

My map programs show several high-end restaurant chains (Morton's of Chicago Steakhouse, McCormick's Seafood, etc.) in between Union Station and Wynkoop.
