Folks,
In working on our 1914 18 ton 3' gauge Porter mogul we find our selves in need of drawings for the pony truck. Its a rather complex design with rollers and links of various lengths that are all pretty shot. Any ideas?

The engine came to the US from Panama back about 1960 with several sister engines. If we could find a similar engine it might give us the information we are looking for.

Any ideas?

Well if you go to http://www.steamlocomotive.info/search.cfm

And choose H.K. Porter from the Builder pulldown, 2-6-0 from the Wheel Arrangement List and 36" from the gauge pull down, you'll get a list of 8 36" gauge Porter 2-6-0s that still exist. Perhaps one of those would be close?

Doug,
Thanks, we will be making phone calls tomorrow. I had forgotten all about that site.

I seemed to recall that the National Museum of Science and Technology in Ottawa, Canada had H.K. Porter drawings. Many of the Porter builder's negs are in the Kentlein collection at the Kalmbach Memorial Library of the NMRA in Chattanooga, TN. Also, I learned last year that a sizable quantity of Porter drawings exist in private hands in southern California; could anybody elaborate further?

There is another excellent source to look up thissame information on existing engines.

That is J. David Conrad's Steam engines of North America. There is an index by builders and their numbers.

Bet you find something about your loco that you didn't know!

By the way the 2-6-0 makes a good looking narrow gauge engine. Where will it run when you finish?

Ted:
Thanks for the leads. The #46 will run here on the Pine Creek RR/NJ Museum of Transportation. It is now going back together, but the pony truck is pretty beat. Check our web site for a few pictures. Should have new pictures up shortly showing the all new tender and other work.
Thanks again,
J.R.

J.R.

I run the Flying Dutchman Railroad, at the Hesston Steam Museum in Indiana. Right now we are working on restoring our 22 ton 2-6-0 Porter. It's sitting right next to our 17ton 2-6-0 Porter. Can we help?

Also, what are you doning on your engine?

Ted
