In 1955, the Rock Island donated its last three Pacifics to various communities. Peoria wanted No. 886, as it had pulled the last steam train into town. As the 886 was no longer available, No. 887 was renumbered and repainted as such. I believe it is still displayed as such at the Wheels O' Time Museum at Dunlap, Illinois. Not sure where or when this photo was taken, but it is the real 886.

After all these years, isn't it time that the 887 was given its real number back?
