I'm working on a detailed letter about why this rare complex (one of only two intact UP roundhouses, excluding the partial Cheyenne facility) should be preserved as a historic site and not adaptively reused. As a city office complex, it will be just another old building that's been yuppified. As an authentically restored historic site (possibly cheaper in the long run), it could be the RR equal of Colonial Williamsburg. I hope others will reply to the newspaper and help save this rare treasure from unnecessary modifications. Incidently, there is plenty of UP equipment to put in such a restored roundhouse, including over 50 steam locomotives, probably half of which once found shelter under its roof. > Looks like it's headed for "adaptive > reuse." http://utahdepot.railfan.net/Evanston.htm ryarger@rypn.org |
