I was onboard the train at the 1989 NRHS Convention at Asheville. 587 pulled an all-day trip to Bulls Gap, Tenn.
The 587 was sporting the beautiful chime whistle from "Engineer Nichols" on the N&W Abingdon Branch, which is featured in the Link record "The Fading Giant".
Being on the train means that I did not get much of a good recording that day, and I always wondered if anyone else did!
Thanks for any leads!

The video "Assault on Asheville (Trackside Video) has 18 minutes' worth of 587 between Asheville and Bulls Gap with Nichol's whistle. Mailing address

The whistling is a bit unimaginative, but what there is sounds as good as it did years ago on N&W 382.
