The locomotive that went to Alaska was Comox Logging #16, owned by the West Coast Railway Assn. of Vancouver. She powered a train dubbed the "Moose Gooser". Comox #11 was removed from display in the 1980s by the Ladysmith Railroad Historical Society ad a re-build was begun. However due to civic politics, personality conflicts and other events the engine was never completed. This beauty is now on "display" in a partially re-assembled state in an interpretive area near the old Comox shop in Ladysmith B.C. with other items of Comox rolling stock and the Comox log unloader. The parts not quickly attached to the engine are reportedly stored in a nearby boxcar. In short it looks pretty sad. This was a prime example of great potential ruined by the conflict of a few. Attempts have been made to "rescue" the engine over the years,but all have failed. In our area it is one of the tragedies of railway preservation and a black mark on all of our efforts.

Have the stupid twits of the Ladysmith city government torn down the shop complex yet? It was one of the last complete, if small, logging railroad shops left standing. Most of the tools were intact and donated to the now defunct Ladysmith Ry Historical Soc. Unfortunately the land belonged to the City of Ladysmith.

The shop is still intact,but rented out to all manner of businesses such as kyak makers and marine oriented outfits. I have no idea where the tools went, they certainly were not offered to any of the rail preservation groups that I know of. I may be wrong though as I can only speak for WCRA
