Does anyone have any information on what looks like an ex-US Army 0-6-0 saddle tank engine sitting along side of a house. This engine was located near Bethany Beach Delaware.
Its in very nice cosmetic condition from what I saw. I meant to go back and get a closer look but the "stripers" were running and had to fish

Here's the rundown on ex-U.S. Navy 0-6-0T No. 3 displayed in Ocean View, Del.:
Built by Vulcan Iron Works in July 1943 (c/n 4417) for the U.S. Government (U.S. Navy boiler #209). Locomotive ordered 8/18/1942, part of an order for three oil burning and two coal-burning locomotives. Locomotive shipped from Wilkes-Barre on 2/2/1943 and delivered to “Senior Aviator in Charge of Marine Corps Air Station, El Centro, California.” Painted dull gray and used as a base switcher. Sold 11/1963 to Phillip Stout and Lawrence H. Myers for $5,000. Stored at Chester Tidewater Terminal, Chester, Pa. 1962-1967. Myers sold his 60% interest (of $5000) in locomotive No. 3 to Wawa & Concordville Inc. on 9/11/1967. Operated on W&C 1967-1968. Stored out-of-service 1969-1982. Purchased on 3/29/1977 by Brian R. Woodcock for $2500 and trucked to Wilmington & Western RR, Marshallton, DE in early September 1980. Woodcock donated No. 3 to Historic Red Clay Valley, Inc., on 2/19/1981. Operated W&W c.1982-1986. Sold 1988 to William Heckman, Black Hills Scenic RR in South Dakota but locomotive never shipped. Resold 1989 to Queen Anne’s Railroad and operated c.1990-1992. Was stored unserviceable on a siding off Nassau Road west of Lewes, DE. Now on display in front of the offices of Gulf Stream Development, Ocean View, DE (October 2003). Oil-burner.

Perhaps best known to Philadelphia area railfans, No. 3 was last used in the late 50's/early 60's as the last steam-powered base switcher at Philadelphia Navy Yard under the auspices of the U.S. Navy.

Kurt, isn't this appearing in the Railroad museum's newsletter anymore?

How do I get current copies of the Keystone? I want to know, so that when your article comes out, I'll be prepared.

That's correct. I felt the PRRT&HS would be a better venue for the article. Actually, the manuscript is now in the hands of the PRRT&HS Publications Editor so it could appear in either The Keystone or The High Line. I'll definitely post an announcement on this board when it appears in print. Unfortunately due to a computer crash in which I lost files I was not able to use your digital images in the article.
