I think I've asked this before, but what is the status of the effort to return PCC cars to operation at El Paso, Texas? Are the rails still in the streets or ripped out? http://www.trainweb.org/elpasocars/ ryarger@rypn.org |

Dear Bob: There is still talk of restoring the remaining PCC cars stored adjacent to the airport and putting them back in service downtown. I saw no tracks in the streets when I was there, paved over if not torn up. J.David jdconrad@snet.net |

My wife grew up in El Paso (we married about 6 weeks after the last run) and remembers taking the streetcars downtown and across the river to Juarez. You might try posting your query on the forum linked below or there is an email given for questions about El Paso Trolleys of upper14@aol.com sc 'doc' lewis El Paso Streetcar Forum utweyesguy@aol.com |

Hi Bob, Some of the track is still in and some is not. The switches infront of the old barn are paved over. Depending upon the latest city idea of what they want for downtown changes what happens in El Paso. That is why a lot of historical projects are not completed. The trollies are at least out of the way of the city for now. That may do more to preserve them than anything else. Robby epsw271@aol.com |
