The rumors are flying so fast that it is like trying to predict where al Queda will strike next. About the only thing that should be taken for certain is that the high level of rumors is a bad sign. For me, the big significance of all this is Jitong is the last show, the last real mainline steam operation. When it goes diesel there will still be lots of steam left in China, and to a lesser extent elsewhere. But Jitong is the last real regular operation of mainline steam anywhere in the world. When Jitong goes diesel, an era will come to an end. jbwest@att.net |
