I received word this morning that the 1856 Memphis & Charleston freight depot at Huntsville, Alabama, was destroyed by fire. The structure was vacant and was pending restoration by city or state historical groups. The freight depot was surrounded by a chain link fence and was located across the tracks from the former passenger station, now the Huntsville Depot Museum.
