Hi Everyone
As you know we have had an introductory meeting with one of the
executers of the scrapyard. She was very nice to us and has an
interest in the O. Winston Link Museum and other aspects of
railroad history. Gary Grey has been asked to contact NCTM to see if
one of their people will be willing to come up and evaluate the value
(historical) of the equipment for the Scrapyard.
we didnt push any thing too far but we did get permission to go on
the site and get a closer look at the locos and rolling stock so we will get a chance
to look at them with some experienced people soon.

Gary and I came away from the meeting with a good feeling that the
locos and other equipment are safe for the time being.
We plan to get together again with her after our Annuual meeting.

Good news, given my and others earlier posts this week. Just remember, scrap prices keep going up as we speak, so make SURE that line of communication with this potential benefactor is kept open, lest we lose more to the torch.

One of the points we are prepared to stress, is that for a tax write off, the higher price of scrap steel, will yield a higher tax write off benefit in protecting the estate from the high taxes associated the settlement of such. Maybe some other groups in similar positions can try such an approach. When you don't have a well stocked treausry, anyhting is worth a shot.
I'm glad that we have some time to work on strategies, because the recovery of this equipment is going to be nothing short of monumental (no pun intended).

Excellent take, and quite frankly one I hadn't thought off. Could you then use a scrap dealer as a reputable "knowledgable source" for pricinga donation? Great way of taking a problem and turning it on its head. I wish you guys the best, and when those girls are moved, would love to come down and help with the removal!
