I recently read that some former San Joaquin & Eastern locomotives were sent to the Philipines. Does anyone know the current status of any of these?

3 truck Shay #104, 3 truck Climax #105 & #106 and 2 truck Climax #110 were all shipped to the Philippines. The Shay went in 1937 from the Red River Lumber Co. It changed hands twice overseas and may still exist, although unlikely. The 3 Climax' were distributed through the scrapper of the SJ&E and do not exist anymore.

There are remains of at least four Shays on the island of Negros in the Phillipines. Two were used by Insular Lumber, and were photographed along with a Baldwin 0-6-6-0 by Colin Garratt during the 1980s. Nearly any of his books on surviving steam worldwide would have a picture.
Two others were operated by Lopez Sugar until very recently. The Insular Lumber Shays were two-truck Shays; the Lopez Sugar engines were three-truck.
Supposively the scrapped remains of Red River and Gulf two-truck Shays #1 and 2 are in the woods at the Southern Forest Heritage Museum & Research Center, Long Leaf, LA. But at the time of visit, trying to view the remains was not fesible. Other parts were visible in the "locomotive graveyard."
