Greetings,

How much does one set of passenger car trucks weigh? These trucks are two axel, complete with wheels for a light weight passenger car.

Thanks,
Gerald W. Kopiasz

Dear Gerald,

It would be helpful if you tell us what car these are from, as it might be possible to look up the truck type and then find a railroad cyclopedia to get a specific weight. Also, please tell us what you are doing with your passenger cars and other equipment - there isn't much C&NW equipment out there.

You will be in the range of 5K to 10K depending on wheelbase, frame, etc. Or maybe another way of guessing is 8,000 minus 3,000 plus 2,000 for the range. Only a guess - - -

If the trucks are 6 x 11 then they should weigh in the neighborhood of 9 to 10 tons each. Slightly less if they are 5 1/2 x 10.
