Vermont Railway roundhouse at Burlington, Vermont. Owned by the state, still in active use. Former Rutland facility, noted for some nice Philip R. Hastings night shots in steam days. Right next to Lake Champlain, in one of the prettiest settings of any roundhouse. I worked here briefly before finally getting a real job again. I've heard talk that Burlington is rabid to get this property for development, as they did back in the late 1980s when they snagged the Waterfront for a park. I saw a "save the roundhouse" site somewhere on the internet that featured this roundhouse and how it can be perserved once and if the city boots Vermont Railway to another place. laflamcs@hotmail.com |
