A major railroad museum has announced it has arranged the restoration of PRR I1sa 2-10-0 number 4584, a locomotive previously believed to have been scrapped. Engine 4584 is one of 475 I1s locomotives built by Baldwin for the PRR in 1923, the largest single order for steam locomotives. A museum employee recently located 4584's number plate in the museum archives and a nearby short line rail road has agreed to restore the rest of the locomotive. Museum experts concur that this is a rare find and that the serindipitous existence of the number plate allows the complete restoration to proceed with the continuity of the historic fabric of the artifact being assured. |

Wow, a second PRR 2-10-0 was just discovered somewhere?! There is 4483 in Buffalo of course, but that one was never assumed to have been scrapped.. How do these huge engines stay hidden for so long? Is this new 2-10-0 in the same yard with the New York Central Hudson that was discovered a few years ago?! I think there is also a PRR T1 in that yard too! and an Alco DL109. oddly, all these recently discovered engines have the same number, 401..hmmm.. Scot More urban legends sscotsman@yahoo.com |
