Remember that SRR is a for-profit company, and Linn has to answer to his board of directors and shareholders, just like any other businessman. He'd have to be able to explain why such a proposition made business sense for the company--and to say the least, it's hard to see how it would.

The bolts are only temporary. The seam in the photo is where the smokebox is riveted to the boiler. The bolts were to hold the new boiler plate in place while it was installed.
Photo below is a better view of the boiler being worked on. Photo was taken earlier on in the rebuilding process. You can see the cuts where the lower part of the boiler was being removed. In the photo in my original post, if you look close, you can see the new metal installed just below the new studs.

Post subject:  Specific locations of Cuban steam??
Is there a source on the web of specific locations of Cuban steam?? My company has lots of contacts in the Carribean basin that do business with Cuba, and I am friendly with enough of them that a few inquiries might be made on behalf of a few engines. However, with intermediaries, some "facilitation fees" are quite common and necessary. It's a longshot, but intriguing enough to tease the imagination. Like Jim Wrinn, I am especially interested in that SR 2-6-0 if anyone has a location. AND, I'll match whatever BBQ and Cheerwine offer Jim throws out there!
