Boston & Maine 3713

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned on the board yet. Last Wed, Mar 24, the steam booster trailing truck of Boston & Maine 4-6-2 no. 3713 was removed for cleaning and restoration. To do this, the rest of this Lima was moved to the sandblast booth at the steamtown shop. This puts the bulk of this engine off-display for now. If you wanted to see the steam booster, or front end throttle or other parts without a locomotive attached, here is your chance. I plan to report when this piece returns to the main shop floor.

Being a New Englander, I can't wait to see 3713 in action again. What a beauty!
What is the latest progress on Baldwin #26? She was all over the shop floor last summer.
As I recall 3254 was in the shop for work and her tender was getting attention in the roundhouse.
2317 did an outstanding job out and back to Moscow last July 4th
I have been daydreaming of next year's 10th anniversary of NPS's grand opening at Steamtown and the possible "guests" to accompany the operating locos.
How about "The Empress" CP 2816 for starters, and throw in a couple of Berks from the Mid West (1225 & 765) and the return of MIL 261?
Of course, it doesn't hurt to pipe dream...

Latest news on the 26 is the molding of a piece of steel for the firebox doorsheet. A flat piece of steel, looking like it's part of a guitar body, will be bent using the McCabe flanger in the shop. It's all marked out, and may see some bending this week. The front flue sheet is ready to have new firetube holes routed out before installation on the boiler. A new steam dome cap is being crafted, also.

Tender and engine are still separated. New driver and rod brasses need to be prepared, among other work. Photos a month old are available at the "unusual scenes" section of "InDepth" on the NPS website.
I have no comment yet on the 10th anniversary, but will soon.
