I see on another railroad board that a trolley body of 1916 vintage is at risk. Authorities have ordered the owner to remove it from its site near Dover, DE no later than April 15. An ad hoc group from Chester, PA is apparently scrambling for funds to haul the body, that once served as a store, to Chester for static preservation. Anybody know if any of the major trolley museums have an interest in this trolley? How's the fund raising progressing? Where would the car go on display after restoration? The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum looked at the car about 18 months ago and found that it was not a project that we would want to undertake. The reasons were: one side of the car had been removed; it was sitting in a salt marsh area so that there was probably severe damage to the underframe (there was no way to inspect the underside of the car); and there are other arch roof, second generation semi-convertible cars around. There was one near Reading that we looked at around the same time that we also decided not to acquire. artschwartz@sprintmail.com |
