Hi,
So the summer is getting close and Im trying to get my plans in order. Does anyone know what route 2816 will be taking from Parry Sound to Toronto? I try to plan my trips out using mapquest to follow the routes, so if anyone could just give me a start location for this trip, that would be great, and does anyone have a schedule for this trip, like what time the train is leaving, where its stopping, etc.
What will 2816 do once the cross Canada trip is over, what will it do between that trip and the one with 261
Has anyone visited the steamer in Port Elgin is it worth a visit?
Whats going on over at the Ottawwa museum, will they have steam running this year?

By "Port Elgin" I assume you mean the steam engine (ex-Essex Terminal #9) at the Elgin County Railroad Museum. This museum in St. Thomas isn't very big but is worth a visit. A few times last summer they ran the steam engine on the L&PS railroad out of Port Stanley. This railroad (which otherwise runs diesels) is worth a visit, and Port Stanley is a fun place in the summer with a very nice public beach.

No, Actually I mean the 24" gauge 4-4-0 in Port Elgin, it runs in a park right next to the lake. Has anyone seen this operation.

btw. I have been to St. Thomas, and did enjoy it, also chased their steam engine from Stratford to Guelph last year, it was a great trip. That engine has to be one of my favorites, it just has this look about it!

In response to the 2816 trip, I understand that the latest issue of the NKP historical society newsletter says that 2816 is supposed to cross over into the states by way of Buffalo, and run to Chicago on the old NYC main, but no Date given. this would no doubt happen in June, since it is due to doublehead with 261 on July 3, and it is due to arrive in Montreal on May 29. Does anyone know anything further about this? I would imagine this is still subject to change at this point. In any case the movement from Montreal to Minneapolis should be very interesting,no matter what route it might take.

#9 only ran to Port Stanley one weekend last summer. It spent about three weeks running around the Goderich and Exeter Railway (RailAmerica) in September and October.

I forgot to mention ETR #9 MAY not be operational to mid-summer this year. The long trip last year took its toll on the 1923 0-6-0. Besides the repair of a number of leaky stay bolts in the firebox and two or three superheaters having to be replaced, one of the spring hangers developed a crack and has to be repaired.

No schedule yet, but the Shay is ready to go for Sundays/Wednesdays in July/August/Labour Day.

The Bytown Railway Society should be steaming the 50 ton auxilliary crane a few times this year.

Also, there is a ex.swedish 2-8-0 running out of Hull to Wakefield, Quebec almost every day. Hull is literally across the river from Ottawa. (actually, it's now part of a city called Gatineau, as of about a year ago - so its name will depend on your map ;-)

So, lots of steam this summer in Ottawa.

If you get to Ottawa make sure you not only go visit the locomotive hall inside the Canada Science and Technology Museum, but also knock on the door of the huge warehouse around back of the museum, which is normally off limits to the public. Maybe John or Duncan du Fresne will be good enough to show you the hundreds of "goodies" inside, including ex-CPR Pacific #1201. Not only are there several pieces of rolling stock, but there are also dozens of antique cars, and even a "Popemobile". Duncan was good enough to show me around early last year.

How far does the shay run at the museum, and where can I find the schedule once it is posted?
