I'm looking for order lists or sales information for the Georgia Car & Locomotive Company of Atlanta, Georgia. I have no idea whether such information exists, but if anyone knows of such records I would really appreciate any leads. I'm specifically looking for data concerning a particular car bought (possibly used) from GC&L by the Macomb & Western Illinois Railway in late 1908. Thanks!

Frank:

Hope you find what you're looking for on GC&LC. But for the record, what can you tell us about the M&WI? What is an interurban? How many miles did it operate? And how long did it last?

Thanks, from someone who is interested in old (long gone) railroads.

The M&WI was planned as an interurban but never electrified. It was built in 1903, went bankrupt in 1910 and was sold to a scrapper about 1912, but in 1913 local farmers bought it back from the scrapper and reinstated service as the Macomb Industry & Littleton. It ran about 20 miles between those three cities and finally was abandoned in 1928. Most of the corporate records were destroyed in a fire in 1918, but all the surviving records are in the library at Western Illinois University so I've been researching the line here.
