<P>I am a bit surprised that no one has made a posting of the interlocking tower at Griffith, Indiana which has been saved and moved off of railroad property onto Griffith Depot Museum property. The facts are these:<br>The three story brick tower was slated for demolition and was offered to the museum by the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railroad IF the museum could move it off of railroad property. The "J", the CN and the UP each gave a donation toward the $40,000 movement price, over a period of time, the museum was able to raise the rest. The actual move took place on July 20th and the tower was just recently placed on its new concrete foundation. Some facts on the tower:<p>Built in 1924<br>Weight about 165 tons<br>Once controlled the crossing of the Grand Trunk Western (now CN), the EJ&E, the C&O and the Erie (the C&O and Erie are now both abandoned through Griffith.)<p>The tower joins the museums small GTW combination depot and three pieces of EJ&E equipment; steel offset cupola caboose #503, steel transfer caboose #197 and an ex-Pullman troop sleeper turned into an EJ&E MofW storage car. The top floor of the tower will be preserved in working order and the other two floors will be turned into display areas.<p>Here is one that DIDN'T get away! <br> midlandblb@cs.com |

<P>I am only an avid reader of RYPN, but I think I can safely say that RYPN relies greatly on the kindness of strangers as a source for its briefs. Having contributed a few times in the past year, I have found it very convenient to type up a short "brief" and email it to Hume or Erik, I throw in a picture or two from my digital camera and usually the next day my very own brief appears on RYPN. <p>So if you're wondering why the rail event you witnessed this past weekend never showed up on RYPN, maybe it's because you didn't submit the info.<br> andy.nold@gte.net |

<P>Amen, amen.<p>Hume, Bob and I essentially run RyPN out of our back pockets in our "copious spare time." Nothing makes my day so much a nice pre-written Brief in my in-box. You don't have to include pictures, just a paragraph or two of text will do. You don't even have to be any great shakes with a pen or a keyboard; if you get the facts down we will be glad to add a little elbow grease and polish.<p>So if anyone knows of a story they'd like to see told in RyPN, just drop us a line.
