Sounds like a good candidate to go to Duluth with her DW&P background. The Lake Superior folks do a fine job with their restorations and have an interesting collection.

If one takes the viewpoint of a "strict constructionist", this locomotive (CV 3608) should be preserved as a CV unit-for it was modified extensively at St. Albans. The prima facie evidence is the lowered short nose.

I know I'm going to be corrected if I'm wrong, but I *think* all the CV RS11's retained their tall short hoods until retirement, and the nose chop was done by the LVRC, NH&V, or some subsequent owner. The CV RS11's are the last mainline Alcos I ever pursued, and every one I ever saw had tall noses. Indeed, I have photos of that very loco in CV paint with a tall nose.

Are not the gvt 1800 1804 ex. cv 3600&3603?

Maybe Bob Yarger can confirm on deny-but I do recall seeing a picture (in TRAINS ?) of the 3608
undergoing "rebuild" at the CV's St. Albans shop.
Evidently, this project was a trial balloon that was never repeated.

Yes, two of the GVT RS-11's are ex-CV.

The 3608 came with the last group of RS11s to arrive on the CV from the DW&P. The nose was already chopped when we got it. The rebuild work had been done at the East Virginia shops of DW&P. The control stand had also been changed to run in the short hood forward position. And like all the others, it came with one of those awful Incinolet toilets.
