After WW 2, the International Car Co. of Kenton, Ohio produced a large number of steel cabooses with standard design elements. The earliest cars seem to be based on a Wheeling & Lake Erie design built at WLE's Brewster Shops. Was there any relation to WLE and International? Perhaps a former WLE car foreman was involved with International Car? International apparently operated into the 1960s at that Ohio location.

Also, does anyone out there know what happened to International's photo (and plan) files? I'm looking specifically for New Haven cabooses from 1947-48.

Have you been following the saga of the Bston & Maine wood cabooses that International distributed around Kenton? Apparently, when the B&M had the little buggies upgraded to the steel versions we known and love, International kept the wooden carbodies of a quite a few intact and they ended up all around Kenton as sheds and what not.

Tim Gilbert has been tracking their whereabouts. I think there are 5 or 6 accounted for, including at least one being restored as a caboose!

Ah, Rob, why did you have to tell me that??!!! Now we'll have to get one of those "sheds", and another B&M steel buggy, and set the boys to work ripping off the steel body and transplanting the wood one. Maybe the steel scrap salvage will pay for the cost of the wood body! And I thought "Chicken Coops" were only for the trolley guys!!!
