Rail Days moving to April in 2001
The Rail Days committee at the N.C. Transportation Museum has unanimously agreed to move the museum's popular Rail Days event to April 28 and 29.
"More than anything, this decision was prompted by visitor, staff and volunteer comments that the first of June is just too hot for an outdoor activity like Rail Days," said Kelly Alexander, who coordinates the event for the N.C. Transportation Museum Foundation. "Moving Rail Days back to April will hopefully provide weather that is more tolerable to both staff and visitors."
Now in its 14th year, Rail Days was formerly held in July, but hot weather precipitated that move as well. The move to April is expected to bring in more visitors for the weekend event.
Volunteer representatives at the meeting said moving the event back to April shouldn't be a problem, especially since steam engines 604 and 1925 will have to be ready for the start of the train ride season April 1.

Wrinnbo@aol.com |
