Post subject:  PRR and IC E8s, MILW E9 up for auction *PIC*
The sad saga of a quintet of EMD E's may be coming to an end soon, as they have been added to the Acadian car auction. The E9 operated on the Indiana Fair Train; the E8s were in MARC service for a brief time in the early 1990s. Auction ends May 13th.

Wow. If you include the Susie-Q E-9's, thats 7 E's available right now.

Are there enough homes, with enough dough, for these?

It's good that the MARC units got out of New Jersey when they did, otherwise we may not have this opportunity.

It is ironic, but the engines and coaches that NJT did *not* keep for preservation, just like those pieces that Steamtown auctioned off pre-NPS, have - in many cases - fared better under their new owners. That's not a criticism, just an observation that sometimes "scattering to the wind" can work in positive ways.

Is there room at Morgan Run for PRR E-8's? ;-)

I have been informed by a principal involved that the locos have a reserve, and were added to the Acvadian auction almost as a last-minute bonus. It is not a case of financial duress, as many auctions are.

If anyone is seriously interested in this motive power, contact me off-list and I will put you in contact with the owners.

*I could respectfully point out that all of these locos have considerable differences between them. The NYS&W locos have twin 645's and HEP and were rebuilt by Paducah in the 1970s; the quintet at auction retain 567's, and the E9 has original as-built HEP.

I don't know--but I spoke with another potential buyer several years ago about these locos, and he replied with a sentiment that I'm sure applies equally to the Ohio Central: "Do I look like I need a hole in my head and wallet? No, sorry, do I look like I need any MORE holes in my head and wallet besides the several I obviously have now?"
